At Connected Minds Psychology, we know that healing happens in many spaces, not just on the therapy couch. Whether it’s connecting over a shared meal, moving your body with intention, or pausing for a moment of stillness, wellbeing is something we build together, out in the world.

That’s why we’re expanding our “Places We Love” series to one of our favourite neighbouring suburbs: Fitzroy. Just a short stroll north from our Collingwood psychology clinic, Fitzroy is a community full of colour, creativity and care. From long brunches to nourishing wholefoods, to grounding movement practices, here are a few local gems we love to visit when we need a reset.

📍189 Gertrude St, Fitzroy

A true Fitzroy staple. Archie’s is our go-to for pre-session breakfasts, casual team catch-ups, or that delicious second coffee. The vibe is relaxed but buzzing, with a menu that hits the sweet spot between comforting and exciting. Their Huevos Sucios (dirty eggs) are legendary, and the oat flat whites are always made with love. Whether we’re tucked into a booth on a rainy day or basking in the Gertrude Street sunshine, Archie’s always feels like a warm hug.

📍Victoria Parade, Fitzroy

A space dedicated to holistic care, Fertile Ground has long been a trusted part of the Fitzroy wellbeing community. Offering naturopathy, acupuncture, massage and more, their integrative team supports people across life stages, from fertility to pregnancy to everyday vitality. We admire their collaborative, evidence-informed approach, and often refer to Fertile Ground when clients are seeking complementary support on their healing journey. They were also fabulous neighbours when we were based on Smith Street!

📍390 George St, Fitzroy

True to its name, this sun-drenched studio makes movement feel joyful. Good Times is all about celebrating bodies of all kinds, with classes that emphasise strength, alignment and fun (yes, fun!). Their inclusive, no-ego vibe is a perfect match for our values at Connected Minds. Whether you’re a Pilates newbie or a seasoned mover, Good Times is a safe, supportive space to reconnect with your body and breath.

📍53 Gertrude St, Fitzroy

For after-hours connection, Marion is where we go when we want to slow down and savour. The ever-evolving wine list and seasonal share plates are elegant but unpretentious. It’s the kind of place that invites long conversations and lingering moments. We love coming here to celebrate milestones (big and small), or just to decompress after a big day. Don’t skip the incredible flatbread.

📍211 Gertrude St, Fitzroy

More than a pub, the Builders Arms Hotel is a true meeting place. With its heritage charm and community-minded atmosphere, this Gertrude Street icon is a favourite for team lunches and spontaneous after-work chats. The menu balances hearty and healthy, and the courtyard is a perfect inner-north pocket for soaking up the sunset. It's the kind of place where you’ll probably run into someone you know, and that’s exactly why we love it.

📍Shop 1/154 Brunswick St, Fitzroy

A haven for those who value food as medicine. Wholefoods Fitzroy is our top pick when we’re stocking up on nourishing snacks, herbal teas or a last-minute lunch on the go. Their range of organic, sustainable and locally sourced goodies aligns perfectly with our holistic view of mental health. Several of our team are just a little bit obsessed with the Loco Love handmade vegan chocolates stocked there – they are definitely worth trying.

📍273 Smith St, Fitzroy

For those in our team who find grounding in cooking, Meatsmith is a standout. This specialty butcher and grocer is all about quality, provenance and slow food. Whether you’re planning a Sunday roast or a simple midweek meal, Meatsmith offers ingredients that inspire care and creativity. It’s more than just a butcher, it’s a celebration of mindful eating, something we believe plays a key role in mental wellbeing. For those who like potato gratin, theirs is a must try!

At Connected Minds, we believe community is an essential part of wellness. Fitzroy embodies so many of the values we hold dear: inclusion, creativity, intention and connection. Whether we’re stepping out for a team lunch, supporting a local business, or simply wandering the streets with a chai or coffee in hand, we feel deeply at home here.

We’re proud to be part of this neighbourhood and committed to highlighting the people and places that make it such a special part of Melbourne.

Stay tuned for more in our Places We Love series and if you're in Fitzroy or Collingwood, please pop by and say hello - our door is always open.
